Rye Witch

2 oz
A whiskey distilled from a grain mash that contains at least 51% rye, a grass and member of the wheat tribe 'Triticeae.'
0.25 oz
An Italian herbal liqueur produced since 1890 in Benevento, Campania, Italy. The yellow color comes from the addition of saffron, other herbs include mint and fennel. Strega is considered a digestif and is also used in cocktails; 40% ABV.
0.25 oz
A rare variety of sherry initially aged to become a fino or amontillado, but inexplicably begins aging oxidatively as an oloroso. Only 1-2% of grapes naturally develop in this manner.
1 tsp
Granulated sugar is a sucrose formed with glucose and fructose join by covalent bonding. Sugar is soluble in water, increasing the surface area (smaller grain size) or heating the water, dissolves sugar faster. Some cocktails use sugar directly but more use it indirectly in syrups/liqueurs.
2 dash
A bitters made from Seville oranges, cardamom, caraway seed, coriander and burnt sugar.
1 peel
An orange colored citrus fruit. Many types of orange make an appearance in cocktails. The peel and juice are equally valuable to diverse cocktails.

Add the bitters and sugar cube to a mixing glass and muddle to a paste. Add everything else, then stir with ice and strain into a chilled rocks glass. Twist an orange peel over the surface and discard. #muddle #stir #straight
